MARANGU ROUTE: 1 (HUTS & CAMPING)
MARANGU GATE – MANDARA HUT – 7KM; 3-5 hrs.
Transfer to Marangu gate from your town hotel. Start the climb through tropical rain forests to Mandara hut at 2700 m above sea level. Overnight Mandara hut
MANDARA HUT – HOROMBO HUT – 11KM; 4-7 hrs.
Take the path through the forests, and arrive into the open moorland. From here the Kibo dome is in clear view. On your right is Kibo’s sister, the Mawenzi peak. Horombo hut at 3700m is reached in the evening for overnight.
 
HOROMBO HUT – KIBO HUT – 10KM; 5-7 hrs
EARLY START FOR Kibo hut, through the last water point (refill your bottles here!); The trail leads way between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks on the lunar landscape, (the saddle). Gradually gaining height to Kibo hut at 4700m above sea level. Overnight.
 
KIBO HUT – UHURU PEAK – HOROMBO HUT – 4 km – 7-8hrs to Uhuru Peak4 km 5-7hrs to Horombo hut
Early Morning start for the summit, between midnight at 1 (one) AM. The trail zg-zags up the steep scree to Gillman’s Point at 5680m and the UHURU PEAK (The roof of Africa) at 5896m above sea level respectively. The summit is reached before the sunrise which is always spectacular and unforgettable. A short time is taken to admire the magic snows of the Kili before retracing the path to Horombo Hut for overnight.
 
HOROMBO HUT – MARANGU GATE – 14km; 5-7 hrs

This day is spent for a leisurely descent to the gate and transfer to your overnight hotel in town.

 
MACHAME ROUT: 2 (CAMPING ONLY)
MACHAME GATE – MACHAME HUT – 10KM; 5-6 hrs.
From your hotel, transfer to the gate for registration and start the trek up hill, through mountain forest to Machame Hut – 3000m above sea level.
 MACHAME HUT – SHIRA HUT – 6 KM; 5-7 hrs
 Leave Machame hut in the morning, the path leads up through steep rocky ridges. Shira hut at 3840m above sea level is reached in the late afternoon. You have superb views of the Shira Plateau and the land below from here. Mt. Meru another extinct volcano is seen on the SouthWestern direction. Overnight Shira Hut.
 
SHIRA HUT – BARRANCO HUT – 10KM; 6-7 hrs.
Depart Shira hut in the morning taking the path which rises up gradually toward the Kibo dome; after reaching the Wedge Buttress point the path drops down to the Barranco Valley. Barranco hut at 33950mabove sea level is reached in the late afternoon. Overnight Barranco Hut.
 
BARRANCO HUT – BARAFU HUT – 8KM; 7-9 hrs
Leave Barranco hut and cross the floor of the Great Barranco Valley and up to the Barranco wall; continue the trek on the south circuit path passing through the Karanga Valley (last water point – Karanga river). Your path joints the Mweka route and up the broad ridge to Barafu Hut at 4600m above sea level. From Barafu hut you have excellent views of the top section of the Kibo dome, the Mawenzi peak and plains below. Overnight Barafu Hut.
BARAFU HUT – UHURU PEAK – HOROMBO HUT - 5km – Uhuru Peak; 4-7hrs14km-Horombo; 5-7 hrs.
Between midnight and one (1 AM) start the trek to conquer the highest point in Africa. This section of the route is very steep and is considered the steepest on the non-technical path on this mountain. You will encounter at least five (5) grueling hours to reach the crater rim at Stella Point 5700m above sea level. "After a heavy snowing this section should not be attempted, alternatively trekkers, should go to Horombo hut for overnight and make it to the peak through Marangu route". Uhuru Peak 5869mis reached after One (1) hour from Stella Point. The fascinating colour changing sunrise is the right reward at Uhuru Peak. The descent is past Gillmans Point and Kibo Hut to Horombo hut (3700m as 1). Overnight Horombo hut.
UMBWE ROUTE: 3 CAMPING ONLY
UMBWE GATE – FOREST CAVES – 13km; 4-6hrs
Transfer from your town hotel to the gate. The path steep and some parts sleepery leads up to the forest caves through montane forests. Arrive Forest Caves at 2850m above sea level in the late afternoon. Overnight Forest caves.
FOREST CAVES – BARRANCO HUT – 5KM; 4-5 hrs
Leave the ‘caves’ in the morning and trek up through forests, heather and the moorland to reach the upper caves. From here the path leads up right to your overnight stop, the Barranco Hut at 3950m above sea level.
BARRANCO HUT – ARROW – GLACIER HUT – 5KM; 4-6 hrs
Start in the morning, follow the path which steeps up through the western side of the great Barranco Valley; up through bare rocks a scree to the Arrow Glacier hut at 4800m above sea level, for Overnight.
 

 ARROW GLACIER – UHURU PEAK – HOROMBO HUT
km; 6-8hrs Uhuru Peak - 14km; 5-8hrs Horombo
Depart early morning (between 12.30 am and 01.00 am ) for the Summit. In case of a heavy snowfall sometimes occurs during the dry season) it is advised to abandon this part of the trek for it shall require a technical climbing experience and tools. Infact this part also call for a serious trekker even under normal conditions due to the steepness of the path. In such a case therefore a retrace to Barranco Hut and making it to the peak through Marangu route is necessary. Under good weather, Uhuru Peak 5896m is reached at sunrise. Descend to Horombo hut on Marangu route for Overnight.
HOROMBO HUT – MARANGU GATE – 14 KM; 5-7hrs
Descend pleasantly to the gate through moorland, heather and forests to the gate. Transfer to your overnight hotel in town.

III NGORONGORO CRATER HIGHLANDS TREKS

Transfer To and From - Kilimanjaro International - (Arusha)

OVERNIGHT –Mt. Village Hotel, Mt. Meru Hotel, Impala Motel – Arusha.
  CAMPING AND LODGES - ARUSHA – NGORONGORO CRATER – 190KM; 4 hrs drive. Departure at 11 am from Arusha for Ngorongoro arriving 03.00 PM. Check in your overnight hotel OR set camp; 04.00 PM descend into the Crater floor for evening crater tour. Overnight Ngorongoro.
  - NGORONGORO – NAINOKANOKA VILLAGE - 8KMS; ½hrs drive.

Early breakfast, descend into the Crater for a morning crater tour. Afternoon proceed to Nainokanoka village. Set camp and walk to the rim of the Olmoth’ Crater – visit magnifique Munge water falls before returning to the camp for dinner and Overnight.

  - OLMOTI CRATER – KAMNANA VILLAGE – 20KM; 5-6hrs Depart for Kamnana village through the Embulbul Depression following the cattle trails which passes through forests and grasslands, the camp is set in the bush (wilderness) several metres from the village.
 
- KAMNANA VILLAGE – EMPAKAAI CRATER – 8KMS; 4-5 hrs
Early departure the path leads through open grassland area, bushland and forests gradually gaining height to the rim of the Empakaai Crater. Camp is set on the rim, before descending into the crater floor covered with dense forests, grass and a lake. Animals like, buffaloes, reedbucks, waterbuck and different species of birds can be seen at close ranges during the walk around the crater. Overnight Crater rim.
 
- EMPAKAAI CRATER – NAIYOBI MASAI VILLAGE 5KMs; 5-7hrs
Depart for Naiyobi village circling the crater rim descend on the North –Western side. The trails leads to Naiyobi Maasai Village which is reached late afternoon. The evening is spent relaxing or visiting the village school and also interacting with the friendly local Maasai people. Overnight camp at the acacia trees forest near the village.  
 
- NAIYOBI VILLAGE – MOUWONGONI VILLAGE – 11KMS; 6-8hrs
 
Depart in the morning following the dusty paths downhill and off the crater highlands to Mouwongoni Maasai Village. Overnight camp at the edge of the village.
 
– MOUWONGONI VILLAGE – NGARASERO VILLAGE – 19KMS; 7-9hrs
Leave in the morning before the sun is hot to follow the winding path across bare volcano rocks and dusty lava soil. The path rounding the north western floor of the active Mt. Lengai crosses rive Ngaresero to the nearby village. Camp is set near the river and a deep bath in the river is very refreshing and even more natural. Early morning between 03.00 am and 04.00 am your transfer jeep drives you to the foot of Mt. Lengai to start the trek tot he peak 2878m.
 
LAKE NATRON – ARUSHA – 240KMS; 6-7 hrs drive

Descend from the mountain at about 01.00 PM. Lunch, tour of the Lake Natron on jeep and transfer to Arusha.

Evening out on a boat Safari along the wonderful Rufiji River which holds the highest concentration of hippos in Africa, also a big number of Crocodiles. Overnight at the Camp.

Early breakfast 07.30am out of the camp to get in touch with nature. Take a boat ride down the meandering river tot he walking Safari starting point. With an armed Ranger/Guide the walking Safari through this virgin African bushes is an unforgettable experience. Get a Sauna treat at the hot water natural swimming pool before a boat ride back to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Breakfast, depart 08.00am for a full day game drive (with lunch boxes). Return to camp in time of r a hot shower and dinner. Overnight Camp.

After breakfast, 07.30am leave Dar es Salaam for Selous with picnic lunch arrive Selous late afternoon. Get in to the camp for leisure dinner and overnight at the camp.

After breakfast out of the camp to get in touch with nature. Take a boat for a safari along the wonderful Rufiji river which hold, the highest concentration of hippos in Africa also big number of crocodiles dinner and overnight at the same camp site.
